Ford employees get dirty for a good cause!

09 December 2008

BacLinks, a division of Karingal, arranged for 42 Ford volunteers to spend the day assisting with environmental works alongside the Barwon River. This involved weed removal and planting specially selected trees that had been propagated by the Barwon Water Nursery and were suitable for the area.

The planting is vital to the survival of native flora and fauna to provide essential food and shelter, as well as reduce erosion of the river bank and encourage additional wildlife in to the area.

Volunteer support is instrumental in maintaining the Barwon River wetland areas and Ford has been happy to contribute to this worthwhile project.

"Employees who are volunteering to help with revegetation of the Barwon River are committed to protecting and sustaining the waterways located around our plants," said Cheryl McKenzie, Ford's Community Affairs Coordinator. "Volunteering is a great opportunity for our employees to support and make a contribution to their local communities."

BacLinks Manager, Sheree Holdsworth stated “Revegetating the Barwon River requires significant volunteer numbers and this large commitment by Ford can make a real difference”.

Ms Holdsworth went on to say “This is a great example of how BacLinks can facilitate business contributions of in-kind support to meet specific community need. More and more businesses are making contact with us to find out how they might be involved so that they too can make a difference”.
