Western Heights Secondary College does its bit for the environment
09 December 2008
13 Students and 2 staff from Western Heights Secondary College worked solidly removing and spraying noxious weeds for 5 hours to assist the ongoing maintenance of the Mt Rothwell Protected Area.
Mt Rothwell is a 1185ha property near the You Yangs and Little River township. It is managed by the Mt Rothwell Conservation and Research Centre and is home to Long-nosed Potoroos, Southern Brown Bandicoots, Rufous Bettongs, Red-bellied Paadmelons, Eastern Quolls and Rush-tailed Phascogales.
The eradication of noxious weeds is essential to the survival of these species, as it helps indigenous plants that provide essential food and habitat to flourish. Volunteers are instrumental in the develpment and maintenance of Mt Rothwell and play a major role in the sanctuary's ability to preserve wildlife and its habitat.
