The My Own Place project assists people with disabilities in the Geelong region to find suitable long term private accommodation.

The service involves working alongside people with a disability when they are:
•sourcing and inspecting rental properties
•completing application forms and leases
•visiting Centrelink to organise change of address and rent assistance
•applying for public housing
•visiting DHS and applying for a Ministry of Housing Bond where eligible
•purchasing their own homes, including completing first home buyers application forms and liaising with architects and builders for modifications as required
•liaising with the relevant Real Estate Agent for all maintenance and modifications on the property
•organising removalists, packing boxes and packing
•sourcing all essential furnishings
•unpacking and the organisation of the home on moving day
•monitoring the chosen accommodation to ensure that the resident is able to live independently
•setting up services to support each person’s living needs and to ensure that their property is well maintained
