Airshow invaluable for WorkLinks students

14 April 2011

WorkLinks participants enjoyed a great experience at the Avalon Airshow in February.

The group assisted the Geelong Lions Club to provide vital car park management for the thousands of people attending the international event.

WorkLinks aims to guide, train and support young people who are accessing Karingal day programs and are looking to work in the future.

The program is based on experiential learning and involves a range of outdoor education experiences to develop team work and attitudes and skills that can be used in the workplace.

It was a long day for the WorkLinks crew, starting at 7am they worked hard throughout the day to ensure Airshow attendees parked in an orderly and methodical manner.

Worklinks Co-ordinator Keith Gregory said the day was a great experience for everyone involved and Geelong Lions Club members were impressed with the group’s work ethic.

“This required the group to interact with the public in a positive manner and take direction from a number of different officials,” he said.

“Everyone was most impressed with the group’s enthusiasm and abilities.”

Keith said the day was also exciting as they were introduced to some Lions Club members involved with fundraising for the creation of Karingal almost 60 years ago.

“They were very happy to see Karingal participants out in the community helping out and working towards their goals,” Keith said.
