Festival a great fit for MatchWorks

04 May 2009

Karingal clients and staff soaked up the colour, sounds and smells of Geelong’s multi-cultural MatchWorks Pako Festa procession and festival on February 28; enjoying a hearty breakfast in vibrant Pakington Street before marching at the front of the parade.

The annual Pako Festa is Australia’s largest free celebration of cultural diversity, attracting tens-of-thousands of marchers, stall-holders and spectators every year.

As the festival’s main sponsor, MatchWorks is invited to march towards the front of the colourful stream of floats, community groups, musicians and entertainers.

Clients and employees from across Karingal walk with family members, carers and friends behind the MatchWorks white ute, handing out show-bags of goodies to eager children in the crowd.

This is the sixth year MatchWorks has sponsored the festival.

MatchWorks General Manager, Michael Wasley, said as an inclusive, free community event which promoted diversity and harmony, the Pako Festa represented many of the values MatchWorks promoted.

Sponsoring the annual festival was a great way for MatchWorks to demonstrate corporate citizenship and support a worthwhile and hugely popular community event, he said.

Once again, Karingal Community Living’s Participate operated its popular café – in the thick of the Pakington Street action - and a special needs centre.
