Ian hits the spot for art lovers

12 February 2010

Ian Scarlett’s artistic talent was recognised late last year when he won the connected09 art prize encouragement award and was judged most popular artist in the People's Choice award.

connected09 celebrates the works of artists living with disabilities or those who have had an experience of mental illness.

The 2009 event saw more than 160 artworks by contributors from across Victoria, helping them connect with their community.

Ian’s proud sister Doris LeRoy said his participation in art classes at Karingallery had done him the world of good.

“I would very much like to see the staff who run these programs congratulated on their achievements,” she said.

“Ian, as an older person coming into painting, has been able to achieve much.”

The Karingallery artists also enjoyed a trip to Melbourne to see their pieces on display – which was a proud moment for all involved.

Karingallery is a commercial art gallery in Central Geelong that offers instruction in various streams of artistry for people with disabilities. Finished artworks are displayed and sold from the gallery located in Geelong’s art precinct in James Street.
