Karingal Foundation to come to fruition
14 April 2011
I am very pleased to announce the Karingal Board has agreed to form a foundation for Karingal.
The Karingal Foundation will pave the way to attract funds for specific Karingal projects from philanthropic trusts and philanthropists, partnerships with large businesses and organisations as well as specific fundraising appeals and events.
This is an important step forward for Karingal as an organisation and will serve as a central mechanism for establishing a permanent, long-term source of income.
These funds are critical as they will allow Karingal to build new facilities for people with disabilities that are consistent with the vision, mission and guiding principles of the organisation.
We also hope the funds will allow us to develop new and innovative services and to be involved in community projects that enrich the lives of people with disabilities.
One example of this will be the East Geelong Community Centre project.
This $6 million development is being supported by government funding, however, more funds will be needed.
We are hoping this will be the first of many projects where funds will be raised through the new Foundation.
As we all know, funding for disability services is stretched and inadequate, and we hope the funding we raise through the Karingal Foundation will also go some way in helping unmet need issues, especially associated with accommodation for people with disabilities.
Forming a Foundation has been on the drawing board for two years – it’s very exciting to see it now taking shape with the employment of Karingal Foundation Executive Officer Colin Frisch.
Colin has only just started in his role and comes to us from Rainbow Riders and prior to that Colin worked at The Gordon TAFE in a senior management role.
In the coming months a Karingal Foundation committee will be formed which will include external members from the business community.
The first steps have now been taken to create the Karingal Foundation and we are very much looking forward to seeing it establish and grow in years to come.
