Kommercial opens Shell cafe in style

14 April 2011

Celebrity chef, Luke Mangan, one of Australia’s leading chefs and restaurateurs, was a special guest at the launch of a new partnership between Karingal and Shell.

Karingal, through Kommercial, an initiative providing supported employment for people with disabilities, opened its third industrial café following a successful tender for the provision of food services for the Shell Geelong Refinery site.

“Karingal, and in particular Kommercial, has had a long and successful relationship with Shell.

“Shell has always been very supportive of Karingal and we look forward to this being a successful and mutually beneficial project,” Karingal CEO, Daryl Starkey said.

“Karingal continues to look for new and innovative ways to improve the lives of people with disabilities. Kommercial Café at Shell is now the third industrial cafeteria for Kommercial in Geelong. Most of the employees are people with disabilities, which is another indication that we are leading the way.”

Kommercial and the Shell Refinery Geelong’s long standing relationship has contributed to both organisations’ successes.

Shell Geelong Refinery Manager, Mark Schubert, said Shell and Karingal have established this partnership to promote workplace diversity at the Geelong site.

Located at the Geelong Refinery in Corio, the Café was officially launched on February 17.

Celebrity chef Luke Mangan was keen to get involved when he saw how the Kommercial Café helps promote the development of young chefs, waiters and restaurateurs.

”It’s great to see people with disabilities working in a kitchen and sharing a love of food.”
