Fundraiser for tsunami
The money raised by a group of Geelong organisations has seen the building of a new medical clinic and 85 homes following the Boxing Day Tsunami which ravaged Sri Lanka in 2004.
The group, including Karingal, Barwon Health, City of Greater Geelong, Gordon Institute of TAFE, G-Force Recruitment, Rotary Club of Geelong, Rotary District 9780 and Geelong Chamber of Commerce raised more than $1000 over two years, which included staff donations.
Candidates needed
Disability Rights and Advocacy Service Inc (DRAS) is canvassing for expressions of interest from suitable candidates to join its volunteer Board of Management.
People of all abilities are welcome to apply.
There are vacancies in the specific areas of Quality Assurance, Risk Management, Legal and Marketing. However all applications will be looked upon favourably.

Information on voting
The Australian Electoral Commission has recently provided updated information on enrolment and voting for people with a cognitive disability/impairment.
Voting is compulsory at federal, state and local council elections for all people listed on the electoral roll. However a person in care can receive assistance to vote, as well as many voting locations having appropriate facilities to assist people with a physical disability.
Alternatively,a person with a cognitive disability/impairment can be registered as a General Postal Voter.
