Support for NDIS shown in important day

15 December 2011

Karingal celebrated International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) by hosting a free barbecue and live music event on Saturday December 3 at The FOrT in Corio.

Proudly supported by The City of Greater Geelong, Barwon Water, Encompass, Lions Club (Corio Norlane branch), MatchWorks and Scope, the event focused on supporting the Every Australian Counts Campaign for a National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Everyone there donned a red campaign t-shirt to show their support for the scheme and were invited to stand together to form the letters ‘NDIS’, with an aerial photograph taken by the Geelong Advertiser.

A special highlight of the afternoon was a performance by Shaun Brown, lead singer of Melbourne rock band Dirty York, who launched the official campaign song, which he also composed, ‘Get It There.’ IDPwD is a day which is recognised worldwide to highlight the achievements and contributions of people with disabilities.

IDPwD brings together people with disability and the general community and aims to showcase their skills, abilities, contributions and achievements.
