Third Year ‘running’ for Karingal Relay for Life team

10 December 2005

Geelong disability services organisation, Karingal will be a part of the Relay for Life event for the third year in a row, when the event takes place in March 2006.

The event, which runs nationally throughout the year, raises money for cancer research.

“The first year we were contacted by a local rotary who were trying to get community organisations on board, and we felt this was a great opportunity for Karingal staff, clients, parents and families, to give back to the community that have so regularly supported us,” said Jane Wise, co-organiser of the team with fellow staff member, Sharon Adamyks.

Since then, the Karingal team has taken on the task with enthusiasm, organising fundraising events such as cocktail nights, footy tipping, trivia nights, and gaining sponsorship.

The team are hoping to this year raise over $5000 towards cancer research.

“Everyone is touched by cancer at some stage of their lives and our clients and staff are no exception, so we think this is a great chance, for anyone, regardless of their situation, to really get in and have a go for a great cause,” said Ms Wise.

“It really gives everyone involved a great sense of pride, community, acceptance and achievement.”

The Karingal team will consist of around 100 Karingal clients, staff, family, friends and volunteers.
